Can I ask you a question? Do you ever start the day feeling negative or that you have no clear sense of purpose? Motivational posters and positive thinking may be helpful, but these are not enough to guide every aspect of your life. The key is living for God instead of for yourself, making your primary concern what God wants. The resulting change of heart can let you see, act, and feel differently, forgiving old angers and getting new hope for the future. But these changes will not come about simply by wedging God into your to-do list—you need to put God at the center of your life. Pressure and guilt will not successfully motivate you, and waiting for more time to pass will not change your heart.
If you want God to use you in great ways, you need focus. The more focused you are, the more effective you will be—and the more God will use you. There is formidable power in focus. Diffused light does not have much of an effect on what it touches. But when you focus on light like the sun’s light through a magnifying glass, you can light a piece of paper or grass on fire. If you can focus it even more, it becomes a laser. A laser can cut through steel and destroy cancer. Proverbs 4:25 says, “Keep your eyes focused on what is right and look straight ahead to what is good.” NCV At one point or another, all of us are going to get distracted. The good news is that it is never too late to get back on track and redirect our focus back to God or our goals. Even if we let our distractions steer us off course, ruin relationships, set us back months or years with our goals, cost us our money, or our peace – God is still there for us! He is there to give us the strength we need to try again and move forward. Paul writes these words for us today. Ephesians 1:18, “I ask God…to make your eyes focused and clear, so you can see exactly what it is God is calling you to do…” Message. Stay Focused! Make Every Day Count!
