Can I Trust God With My Future?

9/24/2026

It’s easy to trust God when we can see how everything is going to work out. But what about when we don’t? God already knows every step ahead of us. He promises to guide us when we're confused, help us when we're tempted, strengthen us when we're in trouble, and stay with us through it all.

The question isn't whether God knows what's ahead.
The question is whether we trust Him with it.

“Your future is bright and filled with a living hope
that will never fade away.” Proverbs 23:18 TPT
We all have the desire to control what happens in our lives, today and in the future. Our lack of control of the future can be one of our greatest causes of worry. The rest of our lives are in the future, and God knows everything that will happen. His plan for our future is good. Our struggle is to trust God for what he has planned. Our choice is to obey God. He will be with us every step of the way. We may not know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future.

God holds the future. Our God is sovereign over all things. Every molecule is under his control. He determines even those things that seem random in our eyes (Prov. 16:33). He rules over the hearts of man (Prov. 21:1). We may make our plans, but it is God who directs our paths (Prov. 16:9). God’s purposes and plans always happen. Nothing and no one can interfere with his plan.

God is good. We can take great comfort in knowing that God is good. The LORD is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His works (Ps. 145:7). He cannot do anything that is not good. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change (James 1:17). But God always does what is right. He is the source of all that is good, and everything He gives us is good.

You can trust your future to God. Because the future is in God’s hands and no one else’s and because He is good and only does what is good, we can trust our future to Him. We can rest in His sovereign care for us. The trials and circumstances we fear, while not good in and of themselves, are always used by God for our ultimate good (Rom. 8:28-29). He is at work within us, making us into the image of His Son.

We can know that whatever happens is not outside his wisdom and control. No matter how challenging or difficult or hard the future might be, God will use it for our good. He will make us like Christ.
