Have you ever thought about the fact that you have enemies? These are dangerous, vicious enemies who will use any method to defeat you in your Christian life. Within minutes after you made your decision you found these enemies already at work: either you are tempted to commit some sin, or you had a moment of discouragement. To be sure, everything is exciting and thrilling just after you have made your decision for Christ! But it is also natural to have doubts, problems, questions, temptations, discouragements, and even difficulties. The Bible says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12.)
The Bible teaches that you have enemies that will be warring against you as long as you live. But the enemy would love nothing more than to fill our minds with discouragement and defeat. You must be prepared. They must be warded off. But I want to go one step farther. Do you realize that sometimes we do this to ourselves? For example, take the word pride. Yes, pride is considered a significant, foundational problem for a Christian, often described as the root of all other sins, a precursor to destruction, and a direct hindrance to a proper relationship with God. “Pride is defined as the attitude that oneself is superior to others.” Pride stops us from seeking God. (Psalm 10:4) It is characterized as self-centeredness, independence from God, and a haughty spirit that resists humility. God gives specific instructions in his Word. He gives us all we need to stand strong in this life and have victory over the battlefields of our mind, heart, and soul. Yet all too often we race through busy, full days, ill-equipped, unprepared, or simply not aware of what we are up against, or who the real enemy even is. Make Every Day Count!
