Love Like Jesus!

​In John 13:34 Jesus said, “I’m giving you a new commandment, love each other in the same way that I have loved you.” (GWT) Jesus says the way that I have modeled for you, the way that I have loved you, I want you to pass that on to other people. I am the model, and the way that I love you is the way I want you to love other people. John 13:15: “I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.” (GWT)

​You cannot fully understand how to love other people until first you understand how much God loves you. You cannot offer other people what you do not possess yourself. You cannot be gracious to others if you have not felt God’s grace. You cannot be merciful to others if you have not felt God’s mercy. You cannot be loving to others unless you understand how much God loves you. When you get that, when you feel it, when you understand the incredible, audacious, indescribable love that God has for you and you feel it in your life, then you are going to be a whole lot more loving of other people.  It is going to be a whole lot easier for you to love other people.

The Bible is truly clear about it. That God put you here on earth to do two things: to learn to love God and to learn to love other people. Life is one giant lesson in love. Life is not about acquisition – how much I get. It is not about accomplishment – how much I do. It is not about achievement – how much I earn. It is not about all the other things we are told our lives are about because all of that you are going to leave behind. You are not taking your career to heaven. You are not taking your car to heaven. You are not taking your truck to heaven. You are not taking your house to heaven. But you are taking your character. You are taking you.

God put you on earth for eighty to a hundred years so you can learn to love. Life is all about learning how to love. Jesus says here the two most important things in life are learning to love God with all your heart and learning to love everybody else. He says if you get that, you have life. If you do not get that, the wrong answer. You just wasted your life.
