Have you ever had to change the settings on your computer, and at the end it says to you, “apply now”? You can sit there looking at your computer, but nothing is going to happen until YOU click on the box that says START NOW! This is true about the Bible. You can lay your Bible right beside your bed or leave it on your coffee table, but if we do not pick it up, read and apply it daily, you and I are not going to get the power and direction from the Lord that we need. When you read the scriptures, you will find over-and-over verses like Psalm 119:20 NLT. “I am always overwhelmed with a desire for your regulations.” You and I must pray for God to give us a desire to study His Word. But what if you do not ask God to help you in this area? What will happen? Let me show you the facts: “A recent study shows most churchgoing Christians do not read the Bible every day. LifeWay Research found that 90 percent of churchgoers agree with the statement, "I desire to please and honor Jesus in all I do." But only 19 percent read the Bible every day. About 25 percent read the Bible a few times a week. "Bible engagement has an impact in just about every area of spiritual growth," Ed Stetzer, President of Lifeway Research, said. 14 percent say they read the Bible "once a week," 22 percent say, "once a month" or "a few times a month," and 18 percent rarely or never read their Bible. "You can follow Christ and see Christianity as your source of truth," Stetzer said. "But if that truth does not permeate your thoughts, aspirations and actions, you are not fully engaging in the truth." WOW! This just blows my mind; what about you? Are you reading God’s Word daily?
This coming Sunday I will be sharing a message called “Start Now.” You do not want to miss this one. (I do not want you to ever miss any of them.) I don’t know where you are in life right now, but I discovered years ago that the answers to my troubles or struggles in life are found in Jesus. His words are the truths that can change how I see life; His perspective helps me make the right choices in everything I do. James 1:5 GWT says it this way: “If any of you needs wisdom to know what you should do, you should ask God, and he will give it to you. God is generous to everyone and does not find fault with them.” The most obvious source of godly wisdom is the Bible. You cannot think of a question or life circumstance about which God’s Word is silent. His principles for right character, conduct, and conversation apply to every situation and decision confronting human beings. We are all able to recall times when we did not respond wisely. Those incidents can be traced back to one of two possibilities—either we did not know a certain biblical principle, or we knew the principle that applied but chose to ignore or violate it. To ensure that we are familiar with God’s standards and the importance of following them, we must dig into His Word. Make Every Day Count!
