Did you know that generosity is the most talked about value in the Bible? More than faith, hope, or love? The word “faith” is mentioned 246 times in the Bible. The word “hope” is used 185 times. The word “love” and all its derivatives are used 733 times. And the word “gives” or “giving” is used 2285 times. Why is there so much emphasis on giving? You cannot ignore it in the Bible. The Bible is a book about giving. It is because giving is the expression of the other three values. Giving is the way you express faith, hope, and love.
In fact, 2 Corinthians 8:7 says, “You already excel in other good qualities. You have faith, knowledge, enthusiasm, and love. Now add generosity to your virtues.” It is not my goal to pressure you or to try to convince you to be generous. Carolinas Cornerstone, you are the most generous church I know. You really do not need a message on generosity. I have watched you since last Sunday morning, give and give abundantly. Thank you! We are talking about developing a giving heart. I used to get upset at people who claimed to be Christians but did not tithe. But I am not upset by that anymore. I just feel sorry for them. I really do. I feel pity for them. They do not really believe that God will take care of their needs. I pity that they do not have that kind of faith. They miss so much of the blessings of God. It is amazing to me that some people will trust Jesus Christ for their eternal destiny, but they will not trust Him with their finances. Tell me the logic in that! If I cannot trust God with my finances, then I cannot trust Him with my eternal destiny because that is a far bigger hit. On the other hand, if I can trust Him to secure my future in heaven – He solved my biggest problem – then any financial blessing I have received is minor by comparison. It is a simple matter of trust. So, for those that do not tithe, the issue is that they are afraid. I feel sad for them because they miss all the blessings and miracle after miracle after miracle that God wants to do in their life simply because they will not trust Him. God says, “Trust Me.” Let me encourage you as your pastor. Do not let Satan rob you of God’s blessings for one more minute. Say, “Satan, go to hell!” He is the only one you can tell to do that. Trust God. Make Every Day Count!
