The Power of Your Story

11/1/2024

I want to invite you to church this coming Sunday. I am going to share a message called “Share Your Story.” I want to just start by saying everything starts with a story. The Bible says in Matthew 13:34 (NLT), “Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, He never spoke to them without using such parables.”
Walk with me for a moment. First, recognize the power of a story. I can tell you stories are powerful, but until you internalize that truth, nothing is going to matter with your story. You must recognize the power of a story. Jesus was the greatest teacher ever. And He was an expert storyteller. God in the flesh knew how to impact and change lives, and his primary medium for doing so was telling stories.

In Jesus’ stories what He would do is bridge God’s kingdom to humanity. He would do these with stories of ordinary people – fishermen and farmers and tax collectors and people that worked in the food court – Chick-Fil–A, McDonalds, etc. - those different places.  Just ordinary people.

His stories connected them with God’s story. Jesus knew the concept of the story. He understood that God has orchestrated this universe as one big narrative. Think about it. It has a beginning. It has a middle. And it has an end. Our individual stories play a part in God’s grand storyline. We are a part of this story. You are in a story. It is a remarkable story – you just may not realize it.

What you do realize is that, as a human, you are wired to respond to stories. When we talk about the story, let us just use the same terminology. When I say “story,” I am talking about your encounter, your life-changing encounter, with God. If you have had a life-changing encounter with God and you now have a spiritual story, that is what I am asking you to think about.

The Bible is filled with people who have had encounters with God, whose lives have changed by a story that Jesus and others told.

Let me ask a question.  Is your life telling a story?
