Can I ask you a question? Have you ever led a person to Jesus? Or were you a part of helping someone to come to Jesus Christ? I have discovered something that helped me change my mind on this subject. Let me begin by saying there is one thing that both Christians and non-Christians have in common. We are both nervous about evangelism (sharing Jesus with others). Non-Christians are anxious about being evangelized. And we Christians are often nervous about evangelizing.
Why is that? Probably because we have a fear of failure. We are thinking that the non-believer is going to ask us a question that we do not have the answer to. But here is a funny thing that I have noticed. Often those that know the most do the least. And those who know the least do the most. In other words, there will be people who have known the Lord for ten, fifteen, twenty years who cannot remember the last time they have tried to share the gospel with someone. Then there is like eight minutes old in the Lord, and they are leading people to Christ left and right. That needs to be the example we need to follow because God wants to use every one of us to bring the gospel message to our generation. I read a stat the other day that said 95% of all Christians have never led another person to Christ. That should not be. Every one of us should be leading people to the Lord. You know why? Our Lord has given us our marching orders in what is known as the Great Commission. He said, “Go into all of the world and preach the gospel to every person making disciples of all nations.” In the original language that is a commandment, not a suggestion. That is what we call the Great Commission and not the Great Suggestion. But sadly, for many the Great Commission has become the Great Omission. We are not doing it. Maybe because it seems like it is such an overwhelming task to evangelize the world. What if we try something different? How about localizing it? Let me state this to you. “Go into all of your world and preach the gospel. Go into your family and preach the gospel. Go into your workplace and preach the gospel. Go into your campus and preach the gospel. Go into your neighborhood and preach the gospel.” You have a sphere of influence, a group of people that will listen to what you have to say. Those are the people you need to start with. Everybody needs to hear about Jesus Christ. Granted, for every person who responds positively to our message there are those who will reject it. Do not stop sharing. Make Every Day Count!
